Leaving the homosexual lifestyle is not a passive activity. We are literally fighting for our lives. We do battle with Satan through the blood of Jesus Christ. So the first step in this process is to make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior. If you have not done this yet please visit our salvation page.
Ephesians 6:10-12 New Living Translation (NLT) A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in heavenly places.
CONTROLLING OUR THOUGHTS
Satan attacks our thoughts. Satan through his lies, has established within us personal beliefs about ourselves (example I was born gay or I can’t leave my homosexual lifestyle), to resist the truth of the Bible. Satan uses these thoughts to try and block us from God’s plan for our lives and to keep us under his authority.
But once we know the truth of the Bible and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are no longer under Satan’s authority. Jesus now has authority over our lives.
We need to be selective about what thoughts we choose to think. If we have a thought that’s not in alignment with the word of God we need to reject that thought.
Romans 8:5-6 (NLT) Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
PRAYER: Help me God to focus on you today. Help my mind & thoughts meditate on you. Help me to be strong because according to your word, "I can do all things thru Christ Jesus whom strengthens me" Php 4:13. Deliver me from temptation. I say this in Jesus precious name. Amen
STUDING THE BIBLE
God talks to us through his Word (the Bible). The Word reveals what is wrong with our lives, gives us clear instructions about how to change our lives and how we should live our lives.
2 Timothy 3:16 New Living Translation (NLT) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
Because our mind is not born again when we receive salvation, we need to renew our mind with the Word. We do this by studying the Word.
The only way to build a relationship with someone is to spend time with them. It’s the same with God. To have a close relationship with Him and to really know Him, you need to make Him a priority in your life and spend time daily studying the Bible.
There is a big difference between reading the Word and really taking the time to study the Word.
There are many different versions of the Bible. We read New King James, the New Living Translation because the wording used in it is contemporary, Joyce Meyer’s The Everyday Life Bible, this is an Amplified Bible containing teaching notes from Joyce Meyer. The amplification in this Bible sometimes gives you a better insight into scriptures real meaning the New International Version of the Life Application Study Bible; this Bible has a lot of useful commentary.
Before starting your Bible study time, pray to God and ask Him to reveal what He wants you to see in each verse. Read each verse slowly. Think about how each verse applies to you and your life.
PRAYING
Because God hears and answers our prayers, our prayers are important weapons in our battle with Satan. Praying also brings peace to our lives, because we are turning over our cares to God placing them on His broad shoulders. Nothing is too small or too large for Him.
Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
While praying to God we can ask Him for direction for our lives, provision, forgiveness, wisdom or help with keeping us from temptations, to name just a few things.
PRAYER : God, I praise you and give you glory. I ask that you direct my steps today, that I might follow your will for my life. Provide protection and wisdom as I go through my day. I cast my cares on you and thank you for giving me the peace that surpasses all understanding. Thank you for your provision today. I say this in Jesus precious name. Amen
FINDING A CHURCH
You must find other believers to "cling" to. It is not a good idea to "hang out" with the same crowd you used to. It’s too easy to revert back to the gay lifestyle again when you spend time with the old crowd.
Find yourself a good Spirit filled Bible teaching church. One in which scripture is the focus of the sermon. Just make sure that the preacher is delivering his/her sermon based upon Biblical Scripture.
Beware of attending a Church which teaches tolerance and acceptance of homosexuality. Such a church is not standing on Biblical Scripture.
PRAYER : God, guide me to the church that you would have me go to that I would know plainly that’s where you want me to be. Help me God to find new friends to be with that will not tempt me.
CONFESSING THE WORD
There is power in confessing the Word of God.
In James 3:6 we’re told that our tongue (confessions) sets the course for our lives.
We believe what we hear ourselves say more than what we hear anyone else say. Find a promise in God’s Word for whatever change you’re seeking in yourself or your life, then start confessing the scripture out loud and believe you have received whatever you’re confessing.
You might consider confessing greater is He who lives in me than he who is in the world or I’m a new person in Christ.
1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them (evil spirits), because the one who lives in you (the Holy Spirit) is greater than the one in the world (Satan).
2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
Always make sure your confession is positive and faith building.
MEMORIZING THE WORD
(memorize) 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
NEVER GIVE UP!
Remember if you fall or fall short don't give up!! That’s just what Satan would like you to do! Get up and ask for God’s forgiveness and strength!!!
